Posted - 10/13/2009 : 8:52:21 PM What do you consider a tougher game, 8 ball, or 9 ball? I say 8 ball. Only as I feel I am tougher to beat at 8 ball, than 9 ball.

Posted - 10/21/2009 : 2:35:39 PM Hmm..Intereting question. Last week, I (2) played a (4). It was a 2-3 Race and I won without ever sinking the 8 ball.
1st Game - Opponent Scratched 8 Ball 2nd Game - Opponent Won 3rd Game - Opponent Scratched 8 Ball
Match to me. |

Posted - 10/15/2009 : 10:45:25 AM 8 ball and 9 ball are so totally different it is close to impossible to compare and say which is more difficult.
The answer is "It's depends!"
8 ball is a game, when properly played, will tend to be more about strategy.
9 ball when properly played will be more about shot making while attaining proper positioning of the cue ball.
Both games can be very easy or very difficult depending on your skill level vs you opponent's skill level.
9 ball is fast paced while 8 ball is more methodical. Both are great games and the rules don't matter as long as you and your opponent are on the same page as to their specifics.

Posted - 10/15/2009 : 10:05:49 AM Ive concluded from my last post, that if the proposed race did pan out as I expected, 9 Ball would be easier for me, and tougher to the pro. hmmm I guess its fair to say it is a player to player bases on what they feel to be tougher.

Posted - 10/15/2009 : 08:55:54 AM In APA, 9 Ball is tougher. Outside the APA and depending on what rules you are using for 8 ball, it's a toss-up. There are too many variables that could make one tougher than the other.
If I disagree with you, it is because I am right. |

Posted - 10/14/2009 : 9:25:44 PM Casey... I did read the post and shared the opinion of at least a handful of senior skill level players. The opinion of which game is more difficult depends on who you play and how good you are. If you are skilled and play people who are not as skilled as you are then 9 is harder. If the situation is reversed then 8 is harder. If you do not agree with this then that is your opinion. As far as the reread the post goes. I noticed that it is a loaded question.

Posted - 10/14/2009 : 5:05:48 PM Reason I ask, is for me, I play my girlfriends kids, and they rarely beat me at 8 ball, and its usually my own error...But 9 ball is more flukish to me, but that just may be my lack of knowledge in the game. I wonder if I played a pro 50 games of 8, and 50 of 9, how mmany wins I would have in each, I would expect more 9 ball wins, not because I am better at it, but because its an easier game to get lucky in.

Posted - 10/14/2009 : 4:34:05 PM Keith......re.read the post. I am quite sure the man nows how to play both games. He is just looking for a poll of either A or B. I must admit that I had expected you to share your vast bit of knowledge earlier than this.

Posted - 10/14/2009 : 4:05:37 PM True 9 ball is tougher because the 9 is the only one that counts. In league it is tougher because you accumulate points by making balls rather than winning games. If I play a 1 and they get two points then they are on pace to make it a 12/8 match if there aren't any dead balls. If there are dead balls then they are on pace to win. In 8 ball the only thing that matters is the 8 ball. Go figure. In 8 ball you have up to seven balls you can shoot at and up to six different balls to choose from after a shot. The game is very lenient and will let you mess up quite a bit during a successful run out.
This is the opinion of all the higher skilled players I have spoken to and I share this opinion.

Posted - 10/14/2009 : 10:29:04 AM I think 8 ball on a bar box because it requires good decision making & very good cue ball control due to the traffic |
