Posted - 05/03/2011 : 7:57:10 PM It's with great sadness that I bring you the news that our Southcoast APA family has lost yet another member. Mike Powell of Thursday night nine ball team Havin' Fun passed away today. My friend Keith Powell, Mike's nephew, asked that I notify our community here on the website.
As you may imagine, the Powell family is devastated by this, and while they truly appreciate your sympathies and prayers, they ask that their privacy please be respected at this difficult time.
For those of you who didn't know Mike, he was a truly great guy with a an equally great sense of humor who really enjoyed playing pool in the APA and getting to know everyone around the pool hall. He will sincerely be missed by all who knew him.
I think the worst time to have a heart attack would be during a game of charades... or during a game of fake heart attack. |

Posted - 05/05/2011 : 10:27:16 AM Keith, I am very sorry for your loss. Sports can be the great equalizer and it is demonstrated every week in this league. It is thankful Mike had this in his life. No words can adequately express the devastation this has on your family. Just know we all care. |

Posted - 05/04/2011 : 4:57:42 PM Sorry to hear about Mike, shocked too! He was a good guy and I know it took me a little while to realize that because of the kind of guys he and I both are. The family has my sympathy and I hope that others will take the time to get to know one another because it was the APA the allowed guys like me and Mike to meet on even ground and get to know one another even though we did not immediately become friends we did come to respect one another as men of integrity and men who enjoyed good sportmentship and fair play. Mike will be remembered as that sort of guy and I can only hope that I can earn that small badge of honor myself in the minds of others like Mike before my time comes to check out.
