Posted - 04/27/2009 : 09:38:42 AM So playoffs are seeded... I get that... However in the division the final standings... there is and can be a tie for first. No seeding because if you earn 54 points. You earn 54 points. The bylaws state" The team that finishes the regular session in first place will receive first-place trophies." So why then...does Team A get a trophy when my team who got the same points and was higher in the standings then them doesn't get a trophy? We finished the regular season "tied" for first with Team A. Explain? Someone? Because I wasn't angry until all my teammates were upset about no trophy and how hard they worked. And some have never gotten a trophy. Then I started thinking about it. |

I've gone over the team manual carefully, and nowhere in the team manual does it state "then too bad". If you are going to refer to the team manual in your posts, it would be appreciate it if you did not misquote the team manual.
We provide a team manual and local bylaws at the beginning of the session to every team captain and both are posted on this website so that if any player wants to have their own copy and be better informed, they can easily do so. Unlike other leagues you may participate in, we do not wait to see how the teams finish and then decide who gets what awards, nor do we wait to see what teams make playoffs before deciding how the playoffs will be conducted.
South Coast APA and its management adhere to some basic principles, one of which is fairness. Any rule or procedure that is applied to ALL players and teams equally is by definition fair. The fact that you may not agree with the rule/procedure does not change the fact that it is fair.
The procedure you are harping about has been in place since before I became involved in APA 13+ years ago, and it never seemed to have been an issue for you until now. Wait, perhaps you thought we would look at this affects ValleyMast so lets change it now? I don’t think so.
If the tone of this response is a bit strong, it is only because I find it quite irritating that, having received your email prior to leaving for Vegas (National Singles Championship) and having responded to it, you chose to then post about it simply because you did not care for the response you received. You asked if your team would get trophies because it tied for first. I explained that we applied the tiebreaking procedures per the Team Manual and your team did not end in first, but second. Trophies are awarded to first place teams, so no, your team would not receive trophies. You may have earned as many points as the other team, but they ended in first while your team took second.
To anyone else out there that may feel offended by this post, my sincerest apologies.

Posted - 04/27/2009 : 4:23:15 PM If that pisses you off then wait until you get into a 3 way tie for first. My team beat both of the other teams head to head. We beat team A 4 to 1 then 4 to 1. We played team B and lost 3 to 2 then won 4 to 1. under that rule we were second because we played team A in the first week and eliminated them. Then played the other team in a later week and were eliminated ourselves even though we beat them a combined 14 to 6. The tie breaker for two way ties is done right but the three way tie breaker needs to be overhauled.
Hey I was just told that we are supposed to make the balls in the pockets. That makes a big difference. |
