Not to make this sound like a bad interview, but what kind of advice could you give to local players that tend to take the game to seriously, and get angry when they miss shots or loose matches?I mean after all it is just a game.

"Never argue with an idiot they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

This is a topic I am very familiar with. After all, there is a reason that I was dubbed the Dragon Lady very early in my career.

Anger on the pool table usually comes from frustration or embarrassment. People get frustrated because they cannot perform at a level they expect. Or they focus on the outcome, rather than the experience. People get embarrassed because they focus on what other people are thinking...external validation rather than internal validation.

It's hard to counsel someone who gets angry...usually their anger prevents them from hearing any advise in that moment. Instead, try to lead by example. It's important to really understand and remember a few things....

- Everyone misses...including you.
- You'll get another chance. There will always be another shot, game, or tournament. If you are focused on what happened in the past, there is no way to be prepared for what's going to happen.
- Don't get emotionally involved in what you can't control. Luck is a factor in this game...so if someone else gets lucky, don't sweat it. You'll get your share of rolls too.
- Don't worry about what other people are thinking. You make mistakes, they make mistakes, we all make mistakes.
- Everyone has an "off" day. Tiger Woods gets beat, Roger Federer gets beat, Allison Fisher get beat. It happens. Move on.
- Have fun. If you aren't having fun, then what's the point in playing?

Hope that helps!

Melissa
