I was told by an opponent that when hitting into the cue ball when frozen to MY contact ball, that this is a double hit. My question is how can this be so since they are frozen for all intents and purposes are they not actually considered one ball, as there is no room for the cue ball to bounce back into my cue?

Pull out your team manual, turn to the section on fouls (starts on page 48), and ask them to show you where that shot is a foul. On page 97, the key words are "repeatedly", "with force", "long follow through", and "may".

The rule is a little vague here (page 97) So you cant Obviously push the ball OR you can angle the cue? Am i to understand that if i use a normal stroke i am unsportman like, or is that only likely if i excessivly follow through? If the two balls are lined up to a pocket, i would use draw and make the shot without pushing. But if they are not lined up and i want to throw the object ball in with a short level cue stroke this is a unsportsmanlike. Games can be won or lost with this difficult shot, so i would like to know when my zealous opponent shouts "FOUL" what to say.

The only place you will find a reference to a push shot in the team manual is on page 97, in the definitions section. That paragraph tells you all you need to know about push shots in APA leagues.

I agree with Taz, that in the scenario that you mention is could not be a foul for a double hit; however, if Taz or Phil would comment: If during your shot the tip of your cue remains on the cue ball longer than what is "normal" for a regular shot where the cue ball was not frozen, this would be considered a "push" and that IS a foul. All organizations have different rules and I'm not sure if I've ever see this is in the APA manual. Thanks Phil or Taz. |
