Posted - 12/05/2005 : 4:49:35 PM Last week one of our players wanted to play a masse' shot that required him to elevate the butt of the stick to get the proper angle. The table lights over the 7' tables at the Arena are sort of low so when the butt of the cue was rubbing against the light shade we requested permission from the other team to be allowed to swing the shade forward to allow the butt to clear with out rubbing the shade.
Fortunately for us ....our opponents were very gracious and our player proceeded to attempt the shot un-impeded by the light shade. (It should also be noted that he missed the shot, fouled by striking the oponents ball 1st and the oponent received ball in hand....even though the light shade had no effect on the shot attempt.).
Question is: Is it permissible to move the light is such a case? Seems like the only fair thing to do....much as moving a bar stool would be..... when necessary for the player to achieve an un-hendered shot.
