Our sincerest condolenses. Thou we know that Carol is finally out of pain and in a much, much better place than we are, we cannot help but be selfish and mourn her loss.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the entire Hardinger family (specially Tom) and friends. Carol will be missed.

thank you so much Marisa for posting this. And thank you very much Taz and Phil for being so understanding about tomorrow night.

And to all of my fellow APA members: your support has been tremendous. My mom would be incredibly touched that so many people had such a fondness for her. My dad, myself and my whole family appreciate it more than we can ever express.

Thank you again, everyone.

Sincerely,

Eddie Hardinger

Eddie my heart and prayers go to you and your family, especially you and your dad. God bless you both! Be there for each other. It will only make you stronger. I know... miss mine everyday... as you will. But know that she sees you, loves you, and your dad is still there for you!

You have my number!

The service tonight was something memorable. Tonight was a great example of why I am proud to be a member of the APA. Many of us lost a friend, and the Hardingers lost a beloved family member. But many of us were there. Some of us knew Carol very well, others not as well, but many of us were there. There's not much we can do to ease Tommy and Eddie's pain, but we can be there in whatever way we can. Those of us who knew Carol shared many good times with her. Great matches, great laughs, great victories and epic defeats. And tonight, we share tears. I'm incredibly glad that so many of us were there. In this time when we're all sad for our loss, it's heartening to know that nobody in our community is alone. Someone told me that memorial services are as much for the living as they are for the deceased. To share memories. To share the good times. To leave a positive stamp on what was a positive and touching life. For any of us who were there tonight, I'm obviously not good at delivering speeches in times like this. But it's easier to type than it is to speak in front of friends and families in a time of sorrow. Something I wanted to say before I got all emotional and basically unable to talk was that I really enjoyed playing against Carol. To be able to compete against a friend and to be guaranteed a friendly and often hilarious conversation afterward was something I looked forward to. Carol, I know you're gonna kick some butt on the tables up there. I'll be there one of these days, so throw some quarters up there for me. I'll miss you.

I think the worst time to have a heart attack would be during a game of charades... or during a game of fake heart attack.

Per Eddie's request, I am posting a message I sent to him and Tom last night after the service.

Subject: What I wish I would've had the courage to say...

...Valentine's day 2007, Kieran and I went to eat at Fin's. We ran into Tom & Carol. She looked absolutely stunning that night and I remember complimenting her and she gracefully accepted the compliment. I walked away thinking to myself, "What an amazing couple. I hope one day I have what they have." What I was referring to was a "teammate" in all things and most importantly a dynamic life and a wonderful family. A couple months later I was in the pits because my relationship had ended and Carol comforted me. She told me that she KNEW that I would be happy and that I can do better. Of course people have been comforting me with the same advice more or less but for some reason when Carol said it, I believed her. There was something about the way she spoke and how intense she looked me in the eye. During the last year or so, I was always in awe of what a sport she was. All the times I would see her she would never complain and whine as I know many people would in her condition.

Yesterday Bruce and had a discussion of how NONE of us would be in APA if it weren't for your family.

Your family is amazing and I hope you know that it extends beyond your immediate members. The night the both of you came to my house to help me out was the first time I really felt like I had any sort of "support" system local in the area. Thank you so much for everything and I hope you let me be a support system for you during these hard times.

Much Love,
Lani

~L
