So had a great moment last night...(Even though it happened to my player.... )

It was a close battle a SL3 vs SL3 both players needing about 12-15 balls. When the guy playing my SL3 made a unbelievable run 13 straight balls!!! 8, 9, and then broke and ran the hole table!!!!!!!!!! My team clapped for him since he was a 3 and we figured it had to be his first Break - And - Run .................We were all extremely surprised to find out that this is his 2nd or 3rd B-Run he has had....(So he said)

So let me ask you this how the HELL does someone stay a SL3 with multiple in LEAGUE play Break and RUNS! 9 BALL

Not taking away from the fact it was a great battle but when a 3 can Break and Run and has been in the APA for MULTIPLE years there is a flaw in the SYSTEM...... Maybe after your 1st Break and Run you shouldn't be able to go below a certain SL

And before you all get crazy with this topic know this I am proud of the sportsmanship shown by my team and especially the girl on my team that was playing him.......

that is an impossible question to answer, since the LEAGUE doesn't want us to know how the skill level if figured... kinda like the COKE or KFC big SECRET...

Question 1. were the break and runs in LEAGUE (have only had one break in run in 8 ball and is wasnt league, 3 or 4 in nine ball but only one in league
Question 2. over how long a period ...have not has any in the last 3 years

both of these would have impact even not knowing how the rating is computed

Isn't the object to make the object ball? But yes you are right the leave would be awesome if it was your shot.

He's been a member for 8 years (you were half right - the right half).

This would be his second break and run. The first was week 3 of Summer Session 2010, a full year ago.

He hasn't stayed a 3. He went up to a 4 last session and dropped back down just two weeks ago.

But I see your point. So many break and runs so close together and we should be keeping him at a 4 at least, especially considering that he DID have a 9 on the snap back in Fall of 2003 (his only one).

I feel for you Derrick,

I know it is hard to watch a 3 run balls without thinking sandbagger. Since my experience at 9 ball Southwest Challenge where the 3 on my team kicked total ass, and I know she is a true 3 because I had played with her for several years. I have an appreciation on the capabilities of the lower level players. Sometimes it all just falls into place. You just have to hope you are on the winning side when it does.

These are the opinons of this poster and are not necessarily shared by me or anyone else.

Did the 3 make a lot of balls on the break?

Did the table set perfectly (like balls sitting in the pockets)?

Did the 3 make any lucky/unintended shots?

Were any timeouts used?

How did the rest of the games go (the remaining 6 points)?

What level (SL) should be able to break and run? I know plenty of 5's that can't break and run 8 or 9. I believe I was a SL 5 when I did both for the first time. I've seen a SL 2 do once before and the next week they went up to a 3 and shortly there after a SL 4. It can make you wonder. Good luck and good skill.

If I disagree with you, it is because I am right.

@ Kerry, Glad to still find u trolling the boards :)

@ Phil - Thanks for the reply and the info. Just wondering did he go up?

@ Moviestarr

Did the 3 make a lot of balls on the break? 1 Ball

Did the table set perfectly (like balls sitting in the pockets)? No there was a Break out needed

Did the 3 make any lucky/unintended shots? Yes 1 on the 8 ball

Were any timeouts used? NO

How did the rest of the games go (the remaining 6 points)? What remainng 6 points he took 13-14 straight points to end the match (SL 3 =25)

What level (SL) should be able to break and run? If you have a B-Run your not a SL 3. At min your a (SL4)

Last but not least I am SL 7 in 9 ball and my last break and run in 9 ball was what at least 1 year ago??? Hmm maybe I should be a 4-5 lol

Interesting topic.
I had a 'real' SL3 that had a break and run in 9-ball on a 9ft table. Became a SL4 and eventually dropped back to a SL3.
I also have a SL5 and two SL4's who have never had a break and run as far as I can remember.
I have also seen several SL3's run more than 10 balls in a row, but then miss five shots in a row. 9-ball has a high variance.
I think that if a player is capable of a break and run or running 10 balls, then they are just as capable of playing as a SL4. It should be automatic.
Richard

@ RH I totally agree unique circumstances to each time at the table ....

But seriously I know eventually SL catches up i just feel that if your a LOW SL 1-3 and you have a break-run more then 1B-RUN and if you move to a 4 you shouldn't move back down...
