So far, all the benefit tournaments for a certain individual have been for our immediate APA family members or their family. This time we have a chance to do something for someone who many of us know and keeps our pool evenings safe.
On January 23rd, Frank Arrieta of the Q-Club was assaulted escorting two people from that location whose only reason for being there was to fight. He was hit in the face with a pool ball, shattering his eye socket and possibly losing his eye. I understand he underwent surgery today at UCLA and his prognosis was unknown. I could go on and on, but those of you that know me know I wouldn't ask if it wasn't for a good cause. Therefore.........
WHEN: SUNDAY, JANUARY 29, 2006 WHERE: Q-CLUB, 2362 N. OXNARD BLVD. (behind Walgreens Drug Store) (805) 278-1231 TIME: 2:00 PM (please arrive early for registration) FORMATS: SINGLES 8-BALL SINGLES 9-BALL 3-BALL SCOTCH DOUBLES (depending on participation)
Hope to see y'all there!
Good Shooting!!!! |

Hey Doug - Great thought, wish I could make it but we have MVP playoffs during this time. Can you let us know about the next one, or better yet, maybe we could take a small evening donation one night (similar to "Green Fees") for a much needed cause. I will talk with my team, but one team won't be much! |

Hey Doug,
I've known Frankie for about 7 years. He is one of the reasons I look forward to going to the Q-Club. He's one of the nicest folks you ever want to know. And definitely someone you always want in your corner.
I arrived about 6:30 to empty my pockets. I was overwhelmed at the number of people that were still playing and donating at 9:00pm. I saw people I have not seen in years! They were all there for Frankie.
I want to Thank the Q-club for an outstanding job in pulling this together on such short notice. Thanks to all of the folks who donated their time and energy to run such efficient tournaments. Thanks to you Doug, for posting it on the website. I would not have known until it was too late to participate.
Did you happen to get the totals for the night?

As of today, a grand total of approx. $2,500 had been raised. I say approx. because the "Bar Jar" had not been totaled yet.
I agree with Jinny....the turnout was fantastic. I think I even saw a few SC APA people there who had never been to the Q before! Just goes to show, no matter what our differences or affiliations.......
POOL PLAYERS STICK TOGETHER!
