I realize that from the last two weekends of 8 & 9 ball regionals there will be a lot more than 10. So I will post mine and lets have some fun with this. 1. bringing a lazer pen to point to your players pocket. |

I saw a coach (after calling his only time out on his skill level 5 player) acidentally bumped the cue ball with his hand as he explained how to shoot the shot he was recommending.....the coaches clumsiness resulted in "ball in hand" for the opponent and guess who won that game.

| I can't believe that a team would fight all the way to stoop to do something like that. So close in making it to vegas but they have to lower themselves to try and get an advantage. |

| I'm curious, what happens to a team that uses a laser pointer? |

| Regarding the lazer-pointer team, wasn't that the same team that decided to change coaches mid-match??? Very interesting chain of events during those matches. The team that won that deserved to! |

I have to say, there are teams and players out there who look for loopholes in the rules and try to exploit them. But I can't believe that someone would use a laser pointer; a blatant violation of apa rules, and clearly stated as such in the rules. At least they only used it to point out a pocket. How much would it have sucked if they used it to shine right into their opponent's eyeball as he/she was lining up a crucial shot? "Well, we would have won but so-and-so used a laser pointer to permanently scar my retina while I was on the hill..."
Taz and Phil, how about this. You know those slightly short of lethal stun zapper guns the cops have? I would completely be in favor of 'shock treatment' to anyone who knowingly engages in such a blatant infraction of the rules. Seriously... WTF!!!??? |

I am still bewildered at how many people criticize players & teams for upholding to the rules. Yes, I am fully aware that sportsmanship and fair play by abiding by the rules (whether the violation was In or against your favor), sometimes draws a fine line.
For example, If anyone saw an Arizona State vs. Cal Fullerton Baseball game, with bases loaded a thirdbase umpire actually called a balk to bring in the winning run for Cal State in the bottom of the ninth. Even the announcers and media criticized the heck out of the umpire for making that type of call in that situation. I'd almost agreed until I saw an interview with that umpire.
He basically held his head up, and said, "Although my heart goes out to those boys and I completely understand the hard work that has brought them all the way here, it is My job to ensure the integrity of the game is enforced by making the calls that my duty calls for. Whether this was a midseason, early inning call or a call in the ninth of a super-regional should not make a difference and if I allow timing or situations dictate my judgement, then I'm not upholding the integrity of the game".
That is not word for word, but in a nut shell, regardless of whether or not an opponent accepts ball-in-hand on a foul of such nature, the fact it happened can only be blamed on the perpetrator (the coach), "NOT" the opponents. Having made coaching errors in the past myself, I to this date have never been upset with an opponent for making a proper call, due to my mistake. It's actually cost me a few drinks & dinners with the friends who have been the victims. :) |
