APA Friends -

My wife's best friend Michelle has been diagnosed with breast cancer for the 3rd time at age 36 and is battling for her life.

This year, cancer will strike more than 1.3 million Americans and take more than half a million lives. As friends and family, we can do something to save lives and help those already fighting this disease. That’s why I’m taking action against cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life® in Camarillo.

I hope you’ll be able to join us for this year’s event. Below is the link for more information, including details on the inspirational Survivors’ Lap and the moving Luminaria Ceremony. If you can’t join us, will you please visit the site and make a donation to support our efforts? Either way, you will make a real difference in the lives of people facing cancer – and in the lives of the people who love them. Thank you!

When you donate, PLEASE put "(APA)" after your name so I will know who to acknowledge. Thanx again!

Phyllis Real-Bremermann (Thousand Oaks)has been involved with Relay for Life for several years. She recently held a tournament at PJs to raise funds for the American Cancer Society and they are hosting a dart tournament on Sunday, October 1st starting at noon. Entry fee is $25 ($15 for payout / $10 to American Cancer Society).

Our children Cassie (16) and Joey (14) will be participating in the Relay for Life in Camarillo, so we'll see you there. We will include Michelle in our family's prayers. God Bless.

Taz, sometimes you can be the sweetest lady.

Wes, my thoughts are with your friend. I will support the cause with what I can. I think we should all stand up and help, even if it is a little bit, because every little bit helps.

I'll talk to Rusty from the Borderline and Mark Jones. Maybe we can put together some kinda benefit tournament for Snipes' wife's friend. Let me know your thoughts, folks.

Dude, just the thought is wonderful and I cannot thank you enough. If you can put something together, I would be eternally grateful, as will others. If not, well, that's the way the ol' ball drops!

Currently, Michelle has a pretty hefty medicine bill and as you may know, insurance helps, but not enough. Soon she will be requiring more and more medical necessities with less and less help. This would be a great opportunity for us to lend a needed hand.

Either way, please keep Mush in your prayers and if something comes up, let me know and I will be ALL OVER IT!!! Thanx again buddy.

No sweat, bro. Once everyone gets back from the Southcoast Challenge in Vegas, we'll get something set up.

Torsten, Wes,

Make sure you provide us with all the information once you set this up so we can at the very least distribute it through the weekly envelopes to all our teams (believe it or not, some still don't know about this message board - or choose not to read it). The League Office will gladly donate a couple of items if you'd like to have some door prizes or raffles or something like that. Torsten, call me for more details.

that would be WONDERFUL! I'm going to try to set the ball rolling today. Maybe Jackie at Moorpark would want to be involved also. She can accomodate more matches simultaneously so we can run a bigger board. I'll keep you all posted.

Torsten,

Are you out of the loop? Jackie no longer works at Moorpark Billiards, though she may still be able to help you out.

Hey guys, thought I would give you the latest update.

Cancer is sometimes so hard to understand. Michelle has breast cancer that has come back for the 3rd time. The cancer she has is breast cancer, which has now spread to her lymph nodes. It is considered metastic in that it's moved from the breast tissue. The goal now is to keep it from going anywhere else (i.e., a major organ). During this last bout, she underwent surgery to remove the nodes found to be cancerous and received chemotherapy. As of last week, Michelle was told that she has more new nodes involved, and that the chemo did not work! Her cancer is extremely aggressive right now. She will now be taking a pill form of chemo called Xeloda. Currently, this medication is not covered by her insurance. Yesterday, she had to pay over $1500.00 dollars for 84 pills, which is only 3 weeks worth. She will be taking 3 pills in the morning and 3 in the evening. As of today, there is no end date to this treatment. Hopefully the insurance will cover this expense and not leave it with her. This is the reason we walk the Relay for Life and why we need a cure now and not tomorrow.

If anyone has any suggestions on where we might find additional help for Michelle, please, please let me know. And thanx again for all you help, support and prayers.

We've been sitting on a decision as to when to have our Lamplighter Classic. So now that we have a person we can help, we are going to set the date for the weekend of November 11. I'll get flyers to Taz for the weekly envelopes. We'll take pre-signups and if you can't make the tournament, your money will still go straight to Michelle and her family. Michelle was a Lamplighter client back in the day. She is a wonderful person and married a wonderful man, Vinney. They have two beautiful children who are just babies. The Lamplighter is looking to make some money for this family. APA family let's do it!!

Mark your calendars!

The weekend went awesome, you should have seen me as the "Bar Wench"! I made an e-tra $183 for the general group. There were so many people that night and the Luminary was spectacular! See you soon!
