When this forum was created, I understood that the point was to have people register in an attempt to avoid "ANONYMOUS" post.
I have noticed that several people are posting with a nick name or handle which is fine but when you click on their profile you see the supposed real name is "Larry", abales, Kristie.

These may be real names but what good are they? It's like Moe, Larry and Curley.

If you don't know them already the registration is pointless.
Shouldn't members be willing to id them selves to the other members if they wish to participate in a forum like this?

Actually, the idea was not to set it up so you have to announce your identity to the world. There are several administration features that allow us to control the content in these forums, including the ability to lock/delete users, requiring admin approval for all registration, IP banning, etc. We have set it up with somewhat minimal requirements for now, in the hope that we won't have to impose further restrictions.

We know who most of the members are, even if they don't provide their real names. Besides, how do we know for sure that you are really Tom Hardinger? The one thing you must have is a valid email address, which (almost) eliminates the possibility of spam like we used to get on the old site.

I have no problem with "anonymous" posters, as long as they "play nice".

Phil
