Having just returned from the 9 ball Southwest Challenge and knowing how bad my memory gets over time I wanted to put my lessons learned down on paper and decided to share them here.
First off special thanks to Taz and Phil and the others League Operators (I told my memory sucks , I cant remember even one of their names) for putting this tournament together. It is a well managed and fun tournament. Am already making plans for the 8 ball version.
The second thought is that any 3 players under the cap can win this. My teammates were both 3’s and we were in every match despite comments from other players to the contrary. The handicap system works, just because the player rating is higher doesn’t mean an automatic win. Just ask the 8 who lost to the 3, or how you feel you play a rating you are not comfortable with, like me playing a 2 (which I had to do twice).
The third insight is that it is not only the game but players that make this game fun. Don’t focus so intensely on the game that you forget to socialize. It is after all just a game and people are more important.
Being focused is a necessary evil (I think details are a pain in the a**). That straight in shot with a slight angle is scheduled for the next couple of practice sections at least.
Vegas is interesting town with more than gambling, at least go see a show.
Last thought for now because I need to get back to work, but let me recommend that you play this at least once in your pool playing career
