I have a couple of questions........

1) How many teams participated?

2) What was the average number of matches each of the winners had to play?

3) According to my calculations, just over $14,000 was paid out. Am I correct or did I misread the post?

Good Shooting All!

The 8-Ball Tournament of Champions (8TOC) brought together 17 teams, all 8-Ball division and playoffs champions. Only one team had to play three times. As for the rest of the field, those who won their first match were guaranteed $500 and a second win gave them an additional $800 for a total of $1,300 awarded to each of the top 4 finishers. The 8TOC took one day, with play starting at 9am and concluding around Midnight. To put it in a nutshell, teams who won 1 match received $500, while the teams that strung two wins in a row won $1,300. Most teams that won their first match (8 teams total) became qualified for the 2008 South Coast 8-Ball Championships (next June).

The 9-Ball Tournament of Champions (9TOC) was made up of all 9-Ball division and playoffs champions. A total of 14 teams participated. Two of those teams received first round byes and were "in the money" before they ever played. The rest faced the same scenario as the 8-Ball teams. One win guaranteed them $500, while a second win increased their earnings by $800. In the end, the top 4 finishers each received $1,300, while the teams they bested each received $500. The top 8 teams qualified for the 2008 South Coast 9-Ball Championships to be held next June.

The total purse of the inaugural Tournament of Champions was $14,400. Just think, if we did away with the prize fund checks distributed at the end of the session, we could increase the total purse to $25,000!
