I may not have figured out how to get it, but I can't seem to find a way to get team statistics ... how a team did against another team on a given date. That is (or could be) useful when looking at history.
I'm not sure it would be as useful, but another bit of information that could be useful is individual statistics ... how a specific player did against another team on a specific date (opponent's rating, and score). Short of writing all of this down in a notebook for future use I can't figure out how to get it on the web site.
John
PS ... The site is fabulous. Very professional and extremely well done.
It only hurts if you miss. |

Not gonna happen, partly because some of the information you mention is practically impossible to pull out of our league software and partly because there's such a thing as too much information.
It's one thing to have published stats so players can see how they and their friends are doing. It's something quite different to publish so much that it becomes a significant factor in strategy for league night. The latter can detract from the enjoyment many players get from league play. The key is to strike a good balance, which is what I think we have right now.
Speaking of what we have, now might be a good time to announce that it will be changing significantly in the not-so-distant future. The National Office, like any prudent organization should, is in the process of developing new software to help us run our leagues. With this new software will come new facilities for our members, something the APA is calling the "Member Experience". You will be able to log into the member experience area of the national site and do things like change your address, phone number, etc., pay your membership online, and ........ wait for it ............ view stats for all the areas/divisions in which you play. When this happens, we will no longer be able to publish stats on our local website.
I don't know when the Member Experience will be launched, nor do I know how much of what we provide now will be available when it is. I do have a voice in helping determine what will be provided, and I will be doing everything I can to make sure our members (and APA members everywhere, by the way) have access to the same kind of information to which you've become accustomed over the past several years. With any luck, what we see will be even bigger and better than what we have now.

I play as a sub in another league and visited their website. It was a little funky and difficult to find what I was looking for at first. The one thing I liked about it is it gave a weekly account of what happened. I short blurb about each match. Something like:
Poolaholics and Lucky8s played to a 2-2 tie which was broke by poolaholics when John Doe outlasted Jane Doe in a hill-hill match to take the night. John had a break and run, and Jane had an 8-ball on the break.
I read several times what happened in the match I played in and it was nice to see my name in print. Just a suggestion to fill your empty hours with.

Kerry, wouldn't that require an Associated Press reporter on duty or something?

I'll get right on that, just as soon as we return from our vacation at the local IRS Auditor's office...

See, Kerry, you couldn't just do it yourself. At least, I couldn't. Let's say I defeated.... we'll use Jonzo Yellow Hawk as an example, even though he's on my team. If I wrote it, the article would read something like, "In APA match play last night, Torsten Sporn gave a severe ass-beating to Jonzo Yellow Hawk. Using brilliant shot selection and just general awesomeness, he was able to completely outplay, outsmart, and outhandsome his opponent. The women were swooning. Yellow Hawk did have his moments with some decent shots, but those were short lived. Invariably, he would follow up his moments of brightness with insipidly electing a four-ball, bank, kick, combo, masse shot while a much easier straight in shot or dead-nuts safety beckoned. Sporn graciously signed autographs for the kids and thanked his teammates for their support, while a grousing Yellow Hawk grumbled something about "Pool Gods" and "hating him."
See? This just wouldn't work.

I know I am late in response to this topic. but I would like to have something like this on the website. when I played mens baseball, our website, allowed for the Manager of the team to imput informaion about the one game we played that week.
For Team Zissou. We created a Myspace page, and I posted how we did for that week so those that could not stay would be upto date on what happened.
I know my friends that are not on my team, and don't play at the same place. that is a topic of conversation after every match. "How did you do?" "did "Redcorn" beat Torsten?" (Ask Jonzo, Torsten, he will tell you.)
I think the simplest way would to be to create a link in the message board.
"How did you Play?" "Division"
pick your division. and put your team name in the Title. and tell how you did. let everyone know who won, who got a Break and run. etc.
Phil has enough to do. (Sorry my nose is a little brown now)
What do you think Phil?
you know, you would think I would get tired of hearing, "you're right Bernardo" but I don't. LOL. |
