on a league night duing a match that had allready started, 2 or 3 games into the match...my player won the last rack and I was at the head of the table with my player giving him some tips on breaking while the table was being racked....the opposing captain approched us both and said, "how many time outs are you going to take?"....my player only gets one per rack. My question to you all is this..."when does the start of new rack begin? ...is it after the eight ball on the previous game is down? Or the moment the person breaking picks up the cue-nall to line up for his break? Or when?... I routinely talk to my players between shots for strategies or simply for support amoung other things.......P.S. I thought the opposing player was just kidding...but out of respect for the rules we did not take a time out for that particular game.....

As far as I'm concerned, the meat of the question was settled by Torsten at the bottom of page 1.

For those who seek more clarity, at nationals the coach must leave the table when the racking player leaves the table. HOWEVER, weekly league play is a bit more relaxed than the national championships, so there's a little more flexibility if the coach happens to linger for a few seconds to finish what he/she was saying.

If a novice player is having trouble just hitting the cue ball into the rack, it is not unreasonable to allow a teammate to coach them through it. Anyone who makes a federal case out of it is just trying to steal a time out.

This kind of thing is petty garbage that takes the fun out of league night. If you can't give the other team a break in situations like this, you better never expect a break from us.

wow I just reread this thread and it seems like we got off track...aside from all the gruge matches....did we reach a conclusion as to what to do about the " time out " situation?

As long as they don't mix it with driving.

Hey I was just told that we are supposed to make the balls in the pockets. That makes a big difference.

Little bit of aiming fluid never killed anyone, right?

I think the worst time to have a heart attack would be during a game of charades... or during a game of fake heart attack.

D shoot me an email and we could set it up. If I remember correctly either you or a buddy of yours has a table. I would love to play you. I have to warn you that I am rusty at eight ball as I am not on an eight ball team. My email is fireandpool@yahoo.com

Nat I hope that you don't get offended about my opinion that Torsten would probably win. I think that you are a good 6 and that he is a 6 in danger of going up to a 7. He just finds a way to win.

If you are buying then Torsten doesn't complain what it is. One might think it wise to get him a couple Irish car bombs.

Fear thee not oh wise & powerful Torsten of Thousand Oaks... for the battle that lies ahead will surely be the making of many stories to come! It has been too long since our last drunk’n battle my friend…I think

I'll look forward to seeing you next season… shoot, maybe even in the play offs if the pool gods see fit ;)

P.P.S
I'll be @ the qualifiers this weekend... you should try and make it! This way we won’t have to wait till next season to beat each other up

How I fear thee, the mighty Nathaniel Hunnicutt. Beware thy blushes when the cheap chalk and sticks of mysticism are due to meet again. It shall be no less than an honor to dispatch you.

Nat I have played against both you and Torsten. Sorry to say this but even with the slump he has gone through he would probably beat you. Then again you could always get him drunk to even the odds.

I'm pretty sure there are some hugs that are needed here!
Come on people, you can not mark a time out on a break... Who has actually done it or seen it?? Not going to happen.

Lets move on to the next topic... guys like me enjoy reading the back and forth, and this one is getting kinda stale

Let's close the book on this one and just get back to complaining about under rated 4's and 5's

P.S.
Stop ducking me Torsten!!
