on wednesday 07-22-09 i was in a match and im sorry to say it got rather ugly, whilst i was paying my match i was continually taunted by the opposing captain, and every miss or bad luck in my game was applauded outloud,in all my years of playing snooker and pool i have never been subjected to this type of conduct. i refer to regionals when taz said this behaviour would not be tolerated. after my match i approached the captain and told him he was a discrace as a captain, and at this point he got aggressive and physically threatened me,i am 57 yrs old and do not expect this . michael smith tried to resolve the situation butfor his efforts he was threatened and called a 'nigger' my captain phoned taz and she said i must leave, and michael smith, but not the opposing captain so we paid the penalty for his behaviour.i must admit it got out of hand and i am not saying i helped the situation by arguing with him. the opposing captain was lonnie guide from klickety-klack i hope you look into this matter further and would appreciate your comments
brian cawley p.s i lost my match but told my opponment he played well. |

| Brian ... you need to get a Sportsmanship Incident Report and fill it out completely. Get as many individuals (who were present and witnessed the incident) to write their view of what happened and who said and did what. Gather it all together and send it to Phil & Taz. They and maybe the Board of Governors will review all the information and take appropriate action. I don't think that Taz was telling you to leave for any other reason than to remove yourself from the situation for your protection and to put a halt to any further escalation. I was on the receiving end of this type of behavior many years ago and I'm happy to say that the "system does work". Phil & Taz do not stand for this type of behavior and will do what needs to be done. I'm sorry that you had to endure the behavior but be thankful that these individuals are in the minority. The majority of the people you will meet and play with in the South Coast APA are not like this. Put the incident behind you and enjoy your nights playing with your friends and teammates. |

Brian,
I printed your post, so it can serve as a written sportsmanship complaint. If you want to add more detail, do as Phil suggests and fill out the sportsmanship form your captain has in his team packet.

I kicked a guy out of my league just last Thursday based on WRITTEN comments from two opponents several months apart. First time he got frustrated at losing and threw his pool cue across the room; second time he got frustrated and threw a billiard ball at the wall (impacted two feet above opponent's table). Two write ups establish a track record that we LOs can act on. This jerk now has a lot of free time on his hands every Tuesday and Thursday nights. WRITTEN (and signed) complaints do work. We LOs do pay attention to them.

sorry to hear your confrontation turned ugly
I truly understand the BAD sportsmanship of throwing cues, banging balls (on the table), cussing and yelling, NAME calling, threatening physical violence, cheating, Sand BAGGING or NOT congraulating a person on winning or shooting a great game.... even when they are underrated
BUT,.... when do we not find JOY in seeing a cueball roll up behind a hook, and cheering when we see the opponent miss and give you ball in hand.... I think this is just GOOD competitive pool and there is nothing wrong with cheering when we have just been handed a chance to win even thou it might have been luck... (or skill)... just don't rub it in.... unless it is a REALLY GOOD FRIEND YOU BEAT...lol taunt me all you want... I will just smile and try harder..... |

The rule of thumb when cheering for luck is "luck belongs to the shooter". So, if it was your player who got a lucky roll and hooked the opponent, feel free to cheer his good fortune. On the other hand, if it was your opponent who took the shot and missed, scratched, or failed to make a good hit, the best thing to do is refrain from cheering until your player is at the table.
