[br]Ok, ok, enough of the fun.

Tom, I'm surprised that you didn't know this, since the discrepancy is what we discussed in our emails.

In 8-Ball, you get 3 MVP points for beating a new player, male or female.

In 9-Ball, you get 4 MVP points for beating a new male, and 2 for beating a new female.

Why is it this way? History. Back in the old days (the really old days, when I first started playing APA), everyone started as a 3 in 8-Ball and there was no 9-Ball. The system gave you 3 points for beating a new player. Then the starting skill levels were changed based on gender, but the system stayed the same (I don't know if it was an oversight or if it was intentional). Then 9-Ball came along, and in their wisdom APA decided to award the points the way they do (4 and 2). They also decided NOT to change 8-Ball.

There you have it. We use the points awarded by the system and changing it would be next to impossible. It would actually be easier to get the system changed at the national level, and that's not easy at all.

It's actually not documented anywhere. Part of that is by design, as MVP programs vary in different league areas. This is just the one we chose to use. We should probably document it on our local website, maybe a page about the MVP program that includes this explanation. It could also include the answer to the question I get multiple times every session, "why is my new player not showing up on the MVP list?". Maybe I'll create that page when I have some time.

Phil

PS - I know you all knew the answer, but nobody wanted to be the BI SCAM...

OK, now that we know the answer, how long is a new player considered "new"? After their first match are they no longer "new", 5th, 10th, 20th???

When they have a skill level (i.e., after one match), that is the number awarded as MVP points.

I believe it is the starting of the next session, after their 10th match is played. This is the waiting period before one can show up on the MVP list.

OK... NOW I know why nobody likes my suggetion of awarding one point for every win,,,, it would make it TOO SIMPLE and take away all the confusion associated with the present system....that being said, I still havn't heard any feedback telling me the negative side of my suggestion........(don't think there is one)

have fun and.... god and I still love you

1 point? hmmm...I think alot of people would be tied for 1st, tied for 2nd, so on, and so on. Just my opinion.

OK, but the original poster stated that, he was playing a "5" and was only awarded 4 points for his win. So the five obviously was no longer a new player, since new players start as fours ...
