Anyone else think this is totally absurd?

To many situation to list all the bad things.

I think the Captains in each area should be allowed to vote if they want this in effect on their league night of play..........

Has this ever been successfully implemented anywhere?

If so where?

For those of you who have no idea what i am talking about.... look on the APA home page under Mystery Teammate.

BAD IDEA but thats my 2 cents

Seems like resistance to a new idea to me. The glass is half full. Not one example of "bad things" noted. If I wasnt already playing in 5 divisions I would consider being a mystery player. For all the bad things you can perceive it still a night of fun and meeting people which is the premise of this.

Isn't the object to make the object ball? But yes you are right the leave would be awesome if it was your shot.

not absurd...new ideas are always great... just seems like the LO 's are creating more work for themselves.. a BETTER idea for their time would be to POST the results of who plays who and how bad they win or lose.. this would be a GREAT help in determining what players to pit against each other in league play ... just a thought ....just posting their win loss record does NOT indicate how good or bad they are....

A single player does not change the fact that it is a team score

Isn't the object to make the object ball? But yes you are right the leave would be awesome if it was your shot.

Don't like the idea? Don't participate. This program is 100% voluntary.

Here's a key part of the write-up:

"Keep in mind that this is an experimental program, and there are undoubtedly kinks that will need to be worked out."

Since we don't allow teams to add players during the last three weeks of the session, there's no reason why we can't extend that to the Mystery Teammate program.

Problem solved. Can you think of any way this program could screw your team that couldn't happen with a player that simply is added to your opponent's roster at any other point in the session?

Taz-

The Program is not 100% Voluntary if your on the opposing team that has to deal with them getting a player and adjust your own roster.

If we choose not to participate then the team we play every week should never have a MYSTERY player on it.

Shouldn't both teams have a say.

Phil - last 3 weeks of a season is a start to correcting. But in a small division like Camarillo Wednesday there are only 6 other teams in a 18 week season you face the same team and players this would allow teams with a spot open for a mystery player (3 TEAMS) to have the same unfair advantage. Who's to say there isn't favoritism or backhanded play. Who decides with team get witch player on witch week?

Maybe I should call you for a better understanding.

Every week of every session, with the exception of the last three weeks of any session, your team has to deal with the possibility that your opponent has a player that wasn't on their team the previous week.

The above statement is true regardless of whether there's a Mystery Teammate program or not.

We choose the players and host teams each week. As for favoritism or backhanded play, you're free to believe what you believe.

Any other questions, yes, please call.

I've always thought a travel division could be be fun. This is close to it.

I agree with every response on this subject. There are different views to every new program. There will be some problems, and there will be people happy with meeting new people or friends from different leagues. I personally think it is a great idea. I hope that everyone can allow it to become a great program that sticks around for years to come. The players are the ones that will make this work. If everyone views it as a social opportunity and not a strategice opportunity or liability than it will be fun. My only suggestion would be to make it a blind draw.

Just remember Derrick there is always a chance that the team you are playing against gets the player that gets really drunk and can't hit the broad side of a barn.

I was thinking of signing up for this, but It would be too much of a drive on league night.

These are the opinons of this poster and are not necessarily shared by me or anyone else.

I love the idea of a mystery player. I'd love to see how other area APA teams are. Id love to play with players in differant areas. ALL IN THE NAME OF FUN!

I wont be playing in my division so I see no reason not to do this. Ive chosen days I am not playing on my own teams. My roster is full, Other wise I would love to have a guest player. How fun to show them how GREAT our division is.

Looking forward to meeting new players!

i have to agree with d-rack on this one. i have built all 4 of my teams to be the best they can. now it all changes and you can have some random player play for your team on a night that might mean alot for the standings. i disagree with this rule. d-rack i agree with you.

Don't take it so seriously. Why not give this a shot for a season or two. If it turns out to be a disaster, I'm sure it will be gotten rid of. If I didn't already play on four nights, I would LOVE to be a mystery player. I mean, why the heck not. Worst case scenario, you get to go shoot with some people you haven't met before and maybe make some new friends

I think the worst time to have a heart attack would be during a game of charades... or during a game of fake heart attack.

Torsten, You have always been a mystery player.
Matt, Did you mean, play against your team or play for your team. A mystery player will only play for your team if you volunteer. The fear is that a ringer may show up on your opponents team. But as Phil pointed out, this could always happen.
One question, when do the opponents find out about the mystery player. Is it just before the match begins.

They will find out when they see the rosters online or on their scoresheet, just like they would any other roster change.
