In case you haven't noticed, the annual Captain / Co-captain tournament is scheduled for July 22 at the Q-Club in Oxnard. This is one of our most popular tournaments - apparently our captains and co-captains like to get together and talk about their teammates

The tournaments will start at 1 PM on the 22nd, with sign-ups starting at noon. Anyone who was a captain or co-captain during the 2005-2006 league year is eligible to participate. These are SINGLES tournaments, so anyone who meets the captain / co-captain criteria can show up and play, regardless of who else is there.

These will be modified single elimination tournaments, meaning everyone gets to play at least twice (but you don't necessarily get to lose twice). APA handicaps will apply, but we will be using our patented slide-to-two format. The lower-rated player in the match slides to a 2 and the higher-rated player slides the same amount. This makes for faster matches, and everyone gets to experience what it's like to be a 2 again!

The entry fee for each tournament is $5, with 100% of the entries paid back to the top finishers. We will also have some door prizes and maybe a raffle or two. All in all, it's a fun afternoon with no pressure and none of the usual captain / co-captain headaches!

We had another record turnout for the Captain/Co-captain tournament! Forty-eight players signed up for the 8-Ball tournament and forty-three played 9-Ball. After a one-hour delay at the start (many players late - freeway backed way up - everyone getting out of the hot Valley I guess), we finally got the matches underway. Eleven hours later, we were finally able to crown two champions.

Bragging rights for the next year go to Lori Goodwin, who defeated Clyde Notti in the 8-Ball finals, and to Wayne Wisdom, who outlasted Janae Ree in 9-Ball.

Many thanks to the Q-Club for providing the tables (and air conditioning!) free of charge for the entire day. The management and staff did a great job making sure everyone was comfortable and well-hydrated so we could enjoy this once-a-year event!
