I joined apa last fall as a decent beginner. My goal starting in January was to become an SL 5 in eight ball by the end of the year. Well, after practicing as often as possible, reading pool books, internet, youtube, and trying my best to soak in all the good advice from apa and bar players; I finally met that goal they just upped me!
Especially've got to give mad props to Tom Hardinger for the improvement in my game - all the advice, patience, time-out explanations, emails, and support. Good coaching buddy thank you!
Before I jinx myself any further I hope I can stay at a level 5 and don't get knocked back down next week
My goal now is to get one of those awesome break and run patches by the end of the year
To whoever plays me next: I'm a big time 5 now so you'll need to be extra ruthless with your safeties

Way to go :) Congratulations to you on meeting your goal!
Even if you get knocked back down next week, you made it and it should show you that you can do it :)
Best of luck to you

Nice job, Rich. You've worked hard, and certainly earned it.
I think the worst time to have a heart attack would be during a game of charades... or during a game of fake heart attack. |

Sorry to bump this thread after a year but I've just been upped again!
To a SIX!
Hot Dawgg!
You all have no idea how hard I've been trying to learn and working and working and working on pool - well - actually, you probably all know exactly how much effort it took. I'm so excited. I had hoped to make it to that level by the end of the year if I kept at it!
Once again, thanks so much to practically every APA player in the T.O. / Simi area for all the advice and help and encouragement - and especially thanks to Tom Hardinger.
Without joining APA, talking to and watching all you play; no way would I have learned so much about this wonderful game.
Ok next lofty goals - to become a good six in the next half year and then become a seven in a year and a half from now. Also, to not let Hardinger rackless night me AGAIN next time we play... and that goes for you too Eddie

Congratulations Richie! Wow!!! a six! Now you have to play me even up...hehe.
This is truly a success story for you and you deserve ALL the credit. The APA is the vehicle but you had to put in all the gas and drive yourself to do the work. To rise to a level six as quickly as you have shows that you have talent but also that you have worked very hard at developing that talent too.
It took me years to get as far as you have come in a very short time.
I will look forward to your reaching you next goal of 7 and I know you can. I will also look forward to our next match.

Congrats. Don't get discouraged if you are not a seven in the time you have given yourself. The computer does funny things and let me have two years as a six before bumping me up. Over the last three or four seasons I had won over 75% of my games. Ed on the other hand was long overdue to become a six and when he did he jumped up to a seven about a season later. If you know you are getting better then don't let the computer get in your way.
Phil when are you going to move Torsten up? Even if it is just for a week and only to mess with him. |

Well Rich I hear you took Eddie down and since that was the last week of this season and both our teams can't get the wild card and that is the only way either of us will make the play offs...we will have to wait til next season for your and my next match against each other.....hang in there buddy and make sure you are still a six the next time we meet....even up, remember?
And don't listen to anyone else! You just get to skill level 7 as soon as you can. I have been chasing that for over 2 years now so it will be interesting to see if you can beat me to it.
Good luck to you.

congratulations...MR Eatgolf..... that just proves that NOT everybody in the APA is sandbagging to keep their skill level down!! I look forward to playing you someday. |

Congrats! The way I see it, is I want to be a 7 in 8 ball and a 9 in 9 ball. When I reach these levels it means that I have been winning at all the prior skill levels.
People with the mentallity, "If you aren't cheating you're not trying" bug the heck out of me. I believe, "If you can't win without cheating, you shouldn't be playing."
Again, congrats and keep working towards that 7. |
