Tracy,

I accept your apology, and offer you one of my own. I have never smoked in my life, and it is still something I am passionate about(obviously).

The only way I would feel better by you getting hit with a golf ball is if It was mine. No, I am kidding. I actually hit a guy once on the course and felt terrible about it. Thankfully it hit him in his ample belly and he just shrugged it off.

I really would be interested in the results of your case study.

I applaude the health issues that this post manifested...but the real point was the time that teams take between matches to put up their NEXT player... usually the time was maximized because of their NEED to go smoke between matches... when the first match starts, the second team KNOWS that it is their put up next and they should already know who is playing second.... and so on...lets make the evening fun and try to make it go quickly.
In my post I was NOT trying to be SELF rightous.. just wanted the smokers to know that their habit puts a strain on the evening. they can smoke ALL they want... just don't do it on my time!

Thank you.

I think I need to expand the study, Last week's results showed that both teams averaged the same amount of time when putting up or countering with players (no one on the other team smoked). The match was still one of the longest I have ever been a part of. It's hard to say if it was because all of the matches were really close or if the timeouts were long because the matches were so close. I think I have to start timing other factors. I am open to suggestions.

wow this topic really went off....but the reality of it all is "plan ahead" you all know when it is your turn to put up and when the match being played is nearly over ("hill/hill,we hope) so set an example for others to follow......this post was originall posted a year ago......lets learn from the feed.....game on!!!

Tracy,

When my 9-ball team qualified for nationals a few years ago, I spoke with my team mates about not taking too much time between shots, games, matches, timeouts. I didn't want to get to nationals and it be a problem. So, for an entire season I took a digital stop watch with me to each match and timed each shot, time out, and when it was our turn to put up. I kept a chart for each night. If one player was taking too long I just showed them the chart for their match. One player that took long on every shot had a hard time speeding up. I would tell him if he hadn't shot by 30 seconds. It didn't take long and his timing was better. By nationals the whole team was comfortable with keeping a better pace. I realize this is a little extreme but it worked.

i cant believe this is still going on after a year. maybe a 2 needs more time during time outs and shots. also, if higher ranked players play each other, they need to win more games. and a lot of higher ranked players, 6 & 7, they rarely use their time outs anyways, so that would make up time for the lower players.
drop the "case study" and just play pool!!!!!! its just a game, right?
