My take on these two subjects:
1) Scoring 8-ball matches - leave it alone. I don't want to complicate the scorekeeper's job and make it like 9-ball scoring. I play in the league because I love pool and want to enjoy my night out. When I'm scoring 9-ball, maintaining my entire focus on the match being played removes the enjoyment. Scoring 8-ball is pretty simple and I would like it to stay that way.
2) Scoring MVP points - leave it alone. I understand Moviestar's experience of being matched up against a lower player and only getting low MVP points when he played well. I have witnessed it and have experienced it myself. But, those concerns could also be addressed by the team captain's careful control of who plays whom. There are some captains who will not put up their best player blindly. They will hold their best player and control who they play.
Having MVP points reflect the opponent's skill level is incentive to play against higher level players. |
